I recently did a Spring Elopement in Sacramento, California. And thinking back to just how hot it was last year in Northern California, let me tell you, the spring weather was sooo nice! The air was crisp, the flowers were blooming, and the bride was not sweating a bit in her flowy gorgeous wedding dress, even through hiking in the long grass, and spontaneous dance parties. Even though I love the summer heat in Sacramento, I think I’d prefer a little rain than 100 degree days of heat. But that being said, summer is still a great time to get married. Take the chance this summer to plan your Elopement, and take into consideration these Ten Tips for Summer Elopements in Northern California!
Pack an ice chest full of ice, ice, and more ice. JK!! Pack it full of cold water, some snacks, and a bottle of champaign! This way, you’ll make sure you both are staying cool while having the best time of your life.
Choose a cool location. The summer is the perfect time to hike up the gorgeous mountains around Northern California! Mt. Shasta is amazing in summer, and not only will you be escaping to elope with the love of your life, but you’ll also be escaping the heat!
Another fun idea is to elope near water. The water will make your location feel crisp and cool, and after you are married, you and your now-husband (eek!) can jump in the lake or ocean to cool off! Living in Sacramento means there are tons of lakes and rivers nearby, and the bay area is only an hour away!
Think about a sunrise elopement! This way, you’ll stay cool, while also getting to elope during the gorgeous northern California sunrises. And, you’ll have the most stunning photographs to remember that moment ever. If your not a morning person like me, then also consider a sunset elopement. Bring the sparklers and twinkle lights, and plan for a fun night!
Plan for a lighter wedding dress. Skip the layers, and choose a very breathable fabric or lace. Maybe pick an open back, and skip the sleeves. Also, choose shoes that are open, and feel comfortable!
Guys, skip the jacket and heavy pants! Go for lighter slacks or chinos that are dark in color, and wear a short sleeve button up with a fancy tie! Accessories with a nice watch, some fancy
Maybe…consider flying or taking a road trip to another cooler state! I’m from Spokane, Washington, and anywhere in Washington in summer is absolutely gorgeous! In fact, the entire PNW is amazing in summer! Anywhere you go, don’t forget to bring me along!
Don’t get dressed up in your wedding gear until at the top of the final destination for your elopement! Wear cool clothes while traveling, and keep cool towels around just in case.
Consider an indoor elopement. Maybe going to the local air-conditioned courthouse, going to the California State Capital, coincidentally right here in Sacramento, or into a cave on the beach!
And for the last tip… Do whatever YOU want! This is your day! These tips are just suggestions, but if you want o have a summer wedding wearing a full wedding dress in the middle of the day, you go girl! Make this day special for you!
I hope these few tips have helped you plan your summer elopement in Northern California.
